Bomu Medical Centre is a ‘not for profit’ registered and recognized non-governmental healthcare organization.
It is a project of the Mkomani Clinic Society (MCS), an entity that came into existence in the late 70’s when a group of citizens who were conscious of the dire lack of accessible, affordable health care services for the poor and destitute, got together and established a small outpatient facility in the Mkomani area of Mombasa Kenya. In the last 25 years, the Society has grown, and so has its activities.
Today, MCS operates the Bomu Medical Centre, its flagship institution that is located in Changamwe, close to the Moi International Airport. The facility has several health care programs that cater to the health care needs of the poor, malnourished and the HIV affected and afflicted.
From humble beginnings as a small outpatient clinic which started operations in the late seventies on a small piece of donated land, Bomu Medical Centre (BMC), a project of ‘Mkomani Clinic Society’, today stands out as one of the premier NGO’s offering free comprehensive medical care of the highest standard to PLWHA’s in the Coast Province.
BMC’s early success in CBD work in both urban and semi-urban settings, opened new doors for donor funding and program assistance, and it was not long before BMC, through its partnership with Pathfinder International, FPPS, AVSC, had taken FP/RH to the grassroots. BMC could not have achieved this phenomenal success without substantial support from its program partners, the untiring efforts of its dedicated professional staff, and visionary leadership of its Executive Director.
BMC is well known for its good governance, transparency and accountability. Its services in the field of health care and HIV/AIDS has won the hearts of its International donors such as USAID, DfID, Kenya Family Health Program, JICA, CIDA, Pathfinder’s International, European Union, ICRH, subsidies of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, African Palliative Care Association, AED/CAP, NYU and CDC - all have worked, or are still working with BMC.
BMC currently provides free comprehensive medical services to more than 17,000 PLWHA from all over the Coast province through its Medical Centre and clinical outreach programs that are assisted by PEPFAR funding. |
