Bomu Medical Centre is a not profit nongovernmental organization that offers primary and secondary health care service in a unique environment. From a very small clinic that offered family planning services, Bomu has evolved into a huge medical centre. At Bomu, we try and address every aspect of care that the patients deserve. We further try and meet international standards of health care provision and this is clearly visible from the success of our HIV/AIDS care and treatment program. Despite having a subsidized fee for our outpatients as well as inpatients, we ensure that the quality of service is never compromised.
OUT-PATIENT SERVICES
The Out-patient is one of Bomu’s vital departments. It is situated on the ground floor for easy access during emergencies. It is spacious and well staffed with nurses, clinicians and doctors.
Bomu offers top quality services at reduced rates. We target the less privileged in the society and serve patients from far and wide.
LABORATORY
Our Laboratory has ultra modern equipment. It is equipped to do wide range of tests in hematology, microbiology, biochemistry and immunology, such as hemogram, renal and liver function tests, CD4 assays, etc. We have an external quality assurance program for the lab with UK NEQUAS and HUQAS.

TB CLINIC
Runs on Thursdays and is fully integrated into the Outpatient and CCC services. All our patients get these services free of charge.
DIABETIC CLINIC
A popular clinic that runs every Tuesday morning. The Clinic offers blood testing, including HbA1c and urine microalbuminuria, which are important for follow-up – todate we have 340 clients.
DENTAL CLINIC
This clinic operates on Tuesdays afternoons and Saturday mornings.
ADULT CCC
Strategically situated on the first floor of the North Wing, this section provides comprehensive HIV services to over 17,000 HIV infected clients and more than half are on treatment.
PAEDIATRIC CCC
Located on the second floor with similar arrangement as the adult CCC, it ensures that children’s issues are handled professionally in a child-friendly manner. With the help of pediatric clinicians, this section offers high quality services, ensuring peace of mind for the child’s caregiver or parent.
Within the pediatric CCC we have Project Sunshine. A play room with colorful activities, toys, drawing tools and games for children. It is a tranquil environment even for the parents who relax with their children as they wait to see the clinician.

MATERNITY & NEWBORN UNIT
Many couples wish to have their babies delivered under the best care. Bomu’s ultra modern maternity has the best services for you. A visit to this department, one has the feeling of comfort and tranquility that an expectant mother would wish to have. The qualified staff will take you through all the procedures skillfully. They can handle complicated procedures with the help of a doctor who is always available full time. Our maternity department has a bed capacity of 19 and a semi-private room with 2 beds.
We are well equipped with machines that can monitor the unborn baby. Knowing that the first few hours are critical for the baby, our nurses will monitor the condition until satisfied. Our neonatal unit has enough incubators for babies who are born before their dates; and phototherapy machine for those who require it. One important factor in all this is our subsidized rates.

OPERATING THEATRE
We have two theatres, one for minor surgical procedures and another for major operations. Simple surgical procedures such as circumcisions and contraceptive implants are conducted in the minor theatre. Major operations are performed in the major theatre.
Gynecologists and surgeons have dedicated theatre days to perform specialized surgeries and while emergencies are handled anytime.
We have just acquired the latest model anesthetic machine and utilize the best anesthetic agents available.

RADIOLOGY DEPARTMENT
The radiology unit is an important section in aiding diagnosis. We offer conventional x-ray services. We also offer ultra-sound services capable of performing obstetric, abdominal and pelvic scans
TB PROGRAM
Bomu runs a full TB Clinic that sees patients from within and outside Kilindini District. Bomu ensures that all its CCC clients are screened for TB and treated in a timely manner.
MWANGALIZI PROGRAM
BMC field workers (waangalizi) follow-up orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) from the CCC by carrying out home visits where they address psychosocial, stigma, discrimination and disclosure issues, and also other concerns that affect the OVC.
MEDICAL RECORDS SECTION
Clients’ records are well maintained and entered into the HMIS.Bomu is proud to be the first Centre to have a ‘live’ EMR system for all its clients
THE TRACERS
All CCC registered clients are allocated a tracer (a community health worker) who acts as link between the patient and the facility. The tracer can be contacted at any time by the patient to address issues related to medication, clinic visits, psychosocial issues, disclosure etc. |
